Favorite New Podcast Find: “What It’s Like to Be” with Dan Heath
In this incredibly interesting podcast, Dan Heath explores what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes. He interviews people of various professions, asking them questions about what it’s like to be them. So far, eight episodes in, he has interviewed a stadium beer vendor, a couples therapist, a criminal defense attorney, a TV meteorologist, a forensic accountant, a mystery novelist, a high school principal, and a professional Santa Claus. Each episode is around a half hour each. . . and fascinating.
Favorite Website: Mockingbird
I am not sure when (it’s been several years now) or how I came across Mockingbird Ministries, but I am so glad I did. Their soul desire is to help people like you and me be reminded of and notice where the grace of God is active (or not!) in the world. From their website:
Behind our entire project lies the conviction that none of us ever move beyond our need to hear the basic good news of God’s Grace. In particular, none of us ever fully escape the gravitational pull of personal control (and anxiety) when it comes to life and how we live it. Hence the name “Mockingbird,” which refers to that bird’s peculiar habit of repeating the song it has heard, over and over again. Our basic approach has not changed.
Full disclosure - I have had the opportunity to write several articles for the site. But this isn’t why I love it. Their podcasts, their posts, their conference messages, their books, etc. is a treasure chest of God’s grace in the world. It’s where I get encouraged, challenged, insight, and tons of sermon illustrations. Mockingbird is a place and ministry I believe you will love.

Every couple of weeks, you will have delivered - straight to your inbox - a list of new books, complete with a detailed review, that will always flirt with your temptation to overspend your book budget. I had the privilege of meeting and hearing a talk given by this bookstore’s owner - Byron Borger. I’ve never met anyone with more knowledge, or passion, for books and book reading. I love his enthusiasm and the way he does a lot of the heavy lifting for us who are curious as to whether or not we should order that book. I encourage you to subscribe to his email list and when you do order a book(s), do him (and yourself) a favor and order from his bookstore.
